About University
Astrakhan State Medical University is one of the oldest universities in the city of Astrakhan. Astrakhan State Medical University was founded in 1918 as the Medical Faculty of the University of Astrakhan. In 1922, all the faculties of the University of Astrakhan were abolished except the medical faculty, which was later converted into Astrakhan State Medical Institute. In 1995, Astrakhan State Medical Institute was renamed Astrakhan State Medical Academy.
Today Astrakhan State Medical University has become one of the most qualified medical educational institutions in Russia. It consists of 12 medical study faculties, 60 study departments, and a variety of medical courses. Astrakhan State Medical University provides studying on, undergraduate courses and postgraduate medical studies in 26 medical specialties and a doctoral level of studies in 13 medical specialties. The medium of instruction in most medical courses is English. Because the medium of instruction is an international language, a growing number of international students are drawn to the medical university.
Currently, Astrakhan State Medical University has trained 3,780 qualified students, 197 interns, 176 residents, and 73 graduate students. Since 1923 Astrakhan State Medical University has produced more than 25,400 physicians giving them the ability to apply for work in the university hospital and medical organizations abroad. The university library at Astrakhan State Medical University serves as a regional medical library. The University library is extensive. Books from the Roman Catholic Church, the Astrakhan Doctors Society’s library, the Theological Seminary’s library, the Petoskey Society of Researchers’ library, private donations, and other sources.
Recognition
Russian Medical Universities are ranked 30th out of the top 100 Medical Universities in the world, according to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) “Directory of World Medical Schools. Astrahan State Medical Academy is among the top-ranked Universities in Russian Federation and abroad. Its alumni have the ability to work in the most prominent hospitals, medical organizations, and research centers in Russia and abroad.
Astrahan State Medical Academy is globally affiliated, accredited, and recognized by WHO and the Medical Councils of leading countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Australia, India, and Canada. The Russian government funds all medical research projects of the Academy and organizes the implementation of their results in life. As a result, the fee is subsidized by the Russian Ministry of Health and Education, making medical education accessible to all.

Accommodation
Throughout the period of medical education, all students at Astrakhan State Medical Academy are provided with accommodation facilities in the students’ hostel. The hostel is situated just a short walk away from the main building and is equipped with all necessary facilities such as washing machines, bathrooms, study tables, water supply, electricity, and Wi-Fi supply.
Various other facilities like sports clubs, libraries, and cafes are also located surrounding the hostel building where students can spend their leisure time. Indian food (both veg and non-veg) is also available to Indian students or anyone else who wish to try it.
Located near the Caspian Sea, the city experiences a warm climate.

About City
Astrakhan is in the southeast of European Russia, in the Caspian Lowland, in the lower reaches of the Volga river. The region is a part of the Southern Federal District and it borders Kazakhstan by land, and Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan by sea. The location of Astrakhan in the delta of the Volga River with its rich reserves of natural resources that contribute to the development of the fishing, fruit and vegetable, chemical industries and petrochemical industries, shipbuilding, and tourism.
The shortest routes connecting Europe with the countries of Central Asia, India, and Pakistan, and the countries of the Indian Ocean basin pass through the Caspian Sea. The leading positions in the local economy are occupied by the enterprises of the fuel and energy complex (oil and natural gas production), shipbuilding, and the food industry. The city is full of entertaining activities such as restaurants, cafes, and museums. The city is full of attractions for young people and international students such as modern museums, Indian restaurants, Asian restaurants, Russian restaurants, food stores, art galleries, cinemas, and recreation areas.
