First Moscow State Medical University is one of the leading, largest, and oldest medical universities in Russia. It is a university of great scientists and academicians who made enormous contributions to the medical science of Russia on the scale of the healthcare science of Russia. First Moscow State Medical University is the first independent university in Russia that continues studying medicine in Russia and researching in the field of medicine and disease prevention within its walls.
First Moscow State Medical University in Russia was founded by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. In 1758 Moscow State University in Russia opened its Medical Faculty in Russia which was later reorganized into First Moscow Medical Institute. First Moscow Medical Institute accelerated the studying process of doctors in Russia to care for the wounded during World War II and introduced new courses in medicine for accelerated and intensified training of international students to study Military Surgery, Sanitation, and Traumatology.
During World War II First Moscow Medical Institute had 2,600 qualified military doctors in Russia. For its outstanding achievements in 1940, the Institute was awarded the Order of Lenin. Over its long history, the medical university in Russia has been repeatedly reorganized and renamed. In 1758 as a Medical Faculty of the Moscow Imperial University, in 1930 First Moscow Medical Institute, in 1990 Moscow Medical Academy, and since 2010 Moscow Medical Academy is known as First Moscow State Medical University in Russia.
Today First Moscow State Medical University in Russia has 177 medical study departments in Russia with more than 2,000 highly qualified teaching staff that are ready to assist students in all issues concerning the studying of medicine. Today, First Moscow State Medical University has trained more than 35,000 local and international students. Currently, 9,000 students are studying at First Moscow State Medical University.
