About University
V. Lomonosov Moscow State University is a public research university in Moscow, Russia, and the most prestigious state university in the country. Lomonosov Moscow State University (MGU) was established in 1755 as the main educational establishment in Moscow, Russian Federation, and neighboring countries.
Moscow State University has more than 40,000 students in Undergraduate courses, Postgraduate courses, and Doctoral levels of education. It is considered one of the oldest universities in Moscow and is part of “Stalin’s Seven Sisters,” a group of Moscow skyscrapers built in the Stalinist style of architecture. University is considered a center of educational activity and research activity in the country. One of the strongest sides of University is applied sciences. The university actively promotes its programs in studying genetics, study biomedicine, study cognitive sciences, study ecology, study information technologies, and similar.
The university includes 15 research institutes, 43 study faculties, more than 300 study departments, and six branches (including five international ones in the Commonwealth of Independent States countries). Alumni of the university include past leaders of the Soviet Union and other governments. All of them are workers of the most prominent state and private companies and organizations in Russia and abroad. A higher degree from Moscow State University gives students the ability to take part in internships abroad and get new invaluable experiences.
A year after the university was founded, in 1756, the university opened its first printing house and bookshop. This allowed the regular publication of many academic materials, including Moscow’s first literary periodical, “Poleznoe Uveselenie” (Useful Entertainment). Also, at the start of the 20th century, many professors of the university contributed to the materials for secondary education in Russia.
With the continuous improvements and steps taken toward the internationalization of the university, it grew into one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country. Today’s Lomonosov Moscow State University collaborates with more than 60 universities, educational institutions, and educational centers, and it welcomes more than 10,000 international scholars every year.
Recognition
The university was ranked 18th by The Three University Missions Ranking in 2022 and 76th by the QS World University Rankings in 2022. It was the highest-ranking Russian educational institution by QS in 2021, and according to the Nature Index in 2019 the highest-ranked Russian university for research output. Moscow State University is generally accepted as the leading higher educational institution in the former Soviet Union.
The university has contacts with foreign universities in the world, exchanging students and lecturers. It houses the UNESCO International Demography Courses and Hydrology Courses. In 1991 the French University College, the Russian-American University, and the Institute of German Science and Culture were opened. Due to numerous cooperation agreements between MSU and foreign universities and international companies, students have abilities to participate in research activities conducted by educational centers of partner universities and get invaluable work experiences during internships abroad.
University cooperates with many foreign universities, clinics, scientific centers, and educational centers in Germany, China, Norway, the USA, Great Britain, and other countries. Faculty members and students of ASMA participate in exchange programs, conferences, and workshops, and perform research together with our international partners.

As of 2009, the university had 39 faculties and 15 research centers. A number of small faculties opened, such as the Faculty of Physics and Chemistry and the Higher School of Television.

Accommodation
The University has two comfortable student hostels with a developed infrastructure. The University can accommodate international students and non-city residents. All student hostels are protected by the police under CCTV surveillance and every student can feel safe and comfortable during studying or resting. Dormitories are located near the educational buildings (the greatest distance is 10 minutes on foot).
Students live in shared rooms for 2-3 people with more than 500 total beds in the student hostel. Every student has free access to all hostel rooms as renovated and equipped reading halls with modern technologies and a huge base of informational resources, a cafeteria where students can drink coffee and spend time with friends, a student gym with new sports equipment, geyser for hot and cold water and park on the territory of the student hostel.

The capital is situated on the banks of the Moscow River. It is the main political, economical, and cultural center of Russia. Moscow is a city with a highly developed industry and a vast amount of career opportunities. It has numerous modern enterprises, mostly engineering and metalworking plants. They produce machine tools, motor cars, transformers, electric motors, TV sets, watches, computers, technical equipment, and many other things.
Moscow is called a city of students. The city is known as the most popular study destination in the world. There are a great number of schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, colleges, institutes, and universities there. The city is so beautiful. It is dotted with green parks, large squares, and wide streets that make Moscow very attractive to everyone. The Kremlin, Red Square, the Novodevichy Convent, and the Church of the Ascension in Kolomenskoye are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The climate of Moscow is moderately continental, with a pronounced seasonality.
The most beautiful sightseeing is the light and music fountain, located in front of the Opera and Ballet Theater. The city is full of attractions for young people and international students such as modern museums, Indian restaurants, Asian restaurants, Russian restaurants, food stores, art galleries, cinemas, and recreation areas.
