About Institute

Saint Petersburg Medical and Technical Institute is a State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education in Saint Petersburg city of the Russian Federation. Saint Petersburg Medical and Technical Institute was established in 1897. Since its establishment until today, the Institute has changed several names – Petrograd Medical Institute, the First Leningrad Medical Institute. In 1986 First Leningrad Medical Institute was renamed Saint Petersburg Medical and Technical Institute. 

Today Saint Petersburg Medical and Technical Institute employ 790 staff people who work in 69 study medical departments, 56 research laboratories, 11 medical institutes, research institutes, and medical centers. The base of the university clinics is located in the medical university and 43 major university hospitals and clinics in St. Petersburg. Every year the Saint Petersburg Medical and Technical Institute train more than 5,000 students, including international students. Around 58000 specialists have been trained since the formation of Saint Petersburg Medical and Technical Institute.

University is one of the oldest and largest Russian higher medical institutions. Throughout its 112-year history, the Academy remains a leading Russian institution in medicine and the training of specialists in preventive and clinical medicine. The university is currently building the largest infectious disease hospital in St. Petersburg, a title previously claimed by Botkin. Hospital.

The SPSMA has a long tradition of educating Russian and international students. More than 35,000 doctors graduated from the medical university. Graduates have the opportunity to apply for work in the most famous hospitals and medical organizations and realize their potential as qualified medical workers and medical scientists.

Recognition

Saint Petersburg Medico-Social Institute is recognized by numerous international medical organizations such as WHO (World Health Organization), NMC (National Medical Commission), and the Ministry of Public Health of the Russian Federation. Students can participate in exchange programs that increase students mobility and give them the ability to get invaluable study experience during living and studying in another culture. 

The medical degree of the University is recognized by WHO, UNESCO, PLAB (the UK), USMLE (the USA), MCI, PMDC, and other international organizations throughout the EU. University offers MBBS courses and study programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as Pre-Bachelor Degrees in Medicine (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation), Bachelor Degrees in Medicine, Master Degrees in Medicine, and Doctorate Degrees in Medicine in several areas of study.

Accommodation

University offers its students accommodation 15 minutes from the main studying building. Students Hostel is completely renovated and supplied with all needed furniture and facilities for comfortable living and studying. The dorm building has a convenient location near the metro and bus station, therefore every student can use the public transport system and visit every place they want. The hostel is also surrounded by a variety of supermarkets, parks, banks, cafes, and restaurants, so it is not problematic to choose how to spend your free time. 

 The rooms are simple but comfortable, with a bed, a table, lamps, a small wardrobe, and a bookcase. Each room adjoins a separate toilet and shower shared by two people. Two rooms together form a small apartment with a separate entrance from the ground floor. Each apartment has doors that can be locked with two separate keys to ensure high security and privacy. Almost all rooms have been renovated and are equipped with televisions, refrigerators, and free Wi-Fi.

About City 

The second largest city in Russia, St. Petersburg is rightfully called the cultural capital of Russia. A metropolitan city of five million people, it attracts nearly 7 million international tourists, of which about one-half are foreign guests coming from all over the world. St. Petersburg was founded by the first Emperor of Russia, Tsar Peter the Great in 1703 as the new, western-style capital of Russia. Since its first days, St. Petersburg has always been a multicultural city, welcoming guests and specialists from other countries. Along with Russian masters and Russian architects, many European builders and Russian engineers contributed to the glory and beauty of the city.

St. Petersburg’s architecture is known all over the world, and the drawbridges going up in the middle of the night fascinate all guests and residents of our city. In summer, you will get a chance to see the famous White Nights and go by boat along the numerous rivers and canals of “Northern Venice.” You can take a tour of St. Petersburg roofs and see a lot of other fantastic things you’ve never seen before.
