General Information
The Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, formerly known as St Petersburg Theatre Arts Academy, formerly Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music, and Cinema (LGITMiK), is a theatre school in Saint Petersburg. It is the oldest Russian state theatre school, founded in 1779. University is the best place to study music, study arts, and study culture in Russia.
A growing theatre school assimilated the St Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy, along with several independent theatre classes and schools in the city. It trains students in various professions in the theatrical arts (including ballet, acting, etc.) and simultaneously provides a traditional university education in liberal arts and humanities. More than 1,500 local and international students, qualification-advancement students, and post-graduate students from various countries study at GITIS.
One of the most notable was the School of Acting and School of Theatrical Skills. University provides full-time studying and part-time studying in undergraduate courses in Russia, postgraduate courses in Russia, and doctoral studies in Russia. It is the top-ranked cultural university in Russia, which gives its students the option of taking part in academic mobility programs and internships abroad.
University’s main aim is to increase the level of education among young persons in Russia and abroad, making higher education in Russia affordable and quality, and giving their students opportunities for employment with the most popular international organizations and Russian state bodies.

Accommodation and Housing
The University is proud of its modern dormitory housing 1100 people. Every section has two cozy rooms, a kitchen, a shower, and a bathroom. The hostel for international students is located in the center of the city 30mtr from the University’s main building. The hostel has well-equipped rooms with all modern facilities for 3 seated big rooms upgraded comforts, and central heating.
Reception, laundry, cleaning and washing personnel, reading room, and computer hall are always available for every hostel resident. The cost of living in Russia can be completely affordable and can also make it a comfortable place to live in.
