About University
Ural State Medical University is a higher medical education institution in Ekaterinburg city of the Russian Federation. Ural State Medical University was formed in 1931 as Sverdlovsk Medical Institute. In 1995 the Sverdlovsk Medical Institute was renamed the Ural State Medical Academy. The university offers good clinical practice, as more focus is given to practical knowledge than theoretical one, and gives everybody the opportunity to study MBBS.
In 2013 Ural State Medical Academy was awarded the status of the university renaming it Ural State Medical University. In 2014 Ural State Medical University was included in the list of the best higher education institutions in the Commonwealth Independent States. Today Ural State Medical University is a higher medical education institution in Ekaterinburg city of the Russian Federation.
The medical university employs more than 1,050 highly qualified teachers in 78 medical study departments. Accommodation
The Ural State Medical University provides all its international students with hostel facilities. All hostel rooms are modernized and supplied with needed technologies and furniture. Rooms are shared between 2-3 students and have separated bathrooms and WC. Few dormitories are residential types that are situated close to the academic buildings and the university campus.
Every student gets a spacious room with beds, desks, side tables, and a refrigerator.
Students also get irons, ironing boards, vacuum cleaners, dryer racks, washing machines, etc. on a sharing basis. In dormitory buildings, restrooms are available for students on each floor. There is a student canteen available at a reasonable rate near the hostel and also a cafe. Students can also cook their own food at the common kitchen situated on each floor of the dorm building. Dormitories have 24/7 security for students’ safety.
About City
Ekaterinburg acts as the divide between Russia and Kazakhstan and has been dubbed the ‘window on Asia’ due to its proximity to the border. The city is commonly called Russia’s ‘third capital’ as it is ranked third for tourist activities, transport infrastructure, and economic size. It holds a special place in Russia for being the site of some history-changing events. A walking tour of the city is a great way to see the beautiful old architecture and the main attractions of historical importance such as the Church on the Blood, the site of the execution of the last Tsar.
Ekaterinburg also hosts several unusual sights such as the QWERTY Monument, a giant stone keyboard, the so-called ‘Mafia Cemetery’ where former Mafia members are commemorated with life-size images carved into stone, and during the winter an entire city block is made of ice. A visit to the Chinese Market with little outdoor stalls that sell almost everything is also a worthwhile experience. During the cold period, there are many opportunities to go cross-country skiing and some downhill skiing. Day trips into the surrounding area, for example, the Deer Stream National Park, is also an option and can be made by public transport.
The most beautiful sightseeing is the light and music fountain, located in front of the Opera and Ballet Theater. The city is full of attractions for young people and international students such as modern museums, Indian restaurants, Asian restaurants, Russian restaurants, food stores, art galleries, cinemas, and recreation areas.
