Tver State University is one of the oldest and largest university in Tver city and as well as in Tver region. Tver State University was opened in 1870 by a school teacher P.P. Maksimovicha as a private teaching school which was later converted in  Tver Teacher's Institute in 1917, and, somewhat later, in the Kalinin Pedagogical Institute. September 1, 1971 in the history of the pedagogical institute significant event happened: it was reorganized in KalininStateUniversity - 20th in the list of universities in the RSFSR and the 52nd - in the USSR. In 1990 Kalinin State University was renamed in Tver State University. Today in Tver State University its mandatory undertakes basic search, applied and methodological research, which is an indispensable part of training. Main research areas in which research is conduct are: Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Radiophysics and Electronics, Physical and Organic, Chemistry, Biology, Human and animal physiology, Ecology, geo-ecology and geo-informatics, Russian Language and Literature, constitutional law, environmental law, domestic history, historical Slavic Studies, General Linguistics and psychology.
