Izhevsk State Technical University named after M.T. Kalashnikov

General Information 

Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University was founded in 1952 and named after Mikhail Kalashnikov, a legendary designer of small arms and Honorary Professor of ISTU. University has a rapidly developing research and educational system, aimed at graduating specialists in the field of technical science, technical engineering, and computer science. 

Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University is a leading research and technical university in Russia in the study of instrumentation and mechanical engineering, study mechatronics and robotics, study computer engineering, and study IT, study management and economics, study engineering, study natural sciences, and study humanities. The university is training engineers in 5 technical specialties, 39 bachelor programs, 31 master programs, and 10 Ph.D. and doctoral programs in technical science. University offers 4 bachelor programs in English medium, as well as a preparatory course for those wishing to proceed with Russian-taught programs. 

Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University has state accreditation and is one of the top-ranked state universities in Russia. All bachelor study programs and master studies passed the procedure of international accreditation in the Central Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation (ZEvA) (Germany). The university has all modern facilities to assist students in their technical studies and research. Over 2,500 PCs and workstations of Kalashnikov ISTU are combined into over 80 LANs linked to the Internet via the university Internet portal.

In the framework of innovative activities the electronic library of Kalashnikov ISTU, which currently comprises over 500,000 entries, was implemented and successfully functions. In virtual laboratories of the university young specialists can do research, as well as exchange information with their colleagues all over the world via the Internet.

Accommodation and Housing 

The University campus comprises 8 educational buildings, 6 students’ hostels, the palace of culture «Integral», a health center, a polyclinic, a stadium, a swimming pool, etc. The students live in comfortable hostels with cooking and laundry facilities, where they can work in computer rooms, as well as relax after their studies. They have their meals in the hostels, canteens, and snack bars on campus.

Kalashnikov ISTU has all the necessary sporting facilities for students and employees such as sports halls, tennis courts, stadiums, ski centers, gyms, aerobics halls, a brand-new swimming pool, and a sauna. Every room has a permanent Wi-Fi connection, a system of central heating, air conditioning, and a permanent electricity supply. The rooms are equipped with beds, desks, chairs, and wall shelves for each student. Wardrobes and shoe racks located in the hallway are shared by the students living in the unit as well as a refrigerator. Blankets, pillows, and bed sheets are also provided to students.
