Maxim Gorky Literature Institute
General Information
The Maxim Gorky Literature Institute is an institution of higher education in Moscow. It is located at 25 Tverskoy Boulevard in central Moscow. The institute was founded in 1933 on the initiative of Maxim Gorky, a writer, founder of the socialist realism literary method, and political activist. It received its current name at Gorky’s death in 1936. Since 1942, full-time and part-time forms of education have been adopted. Since 1953, the Higher Literary Courses have been operating at the Institute.
In 1983 the Institute was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples. Currently, the educational process is going on at two faculties: full-time and part-time – according to specialist programs (qualifications “Literary Worker” and “Literary Worker, Translator of Fiction”). The system of education at the institute provides for the study of courses in the humanities and social disciplines, classes in creative seminars on the types and genres of fiction: prose, poetry, drama, children’s literature, literary criticism, essay and journalism, and translation of fiction. Recruiting departments: literary skill, literary translation. The institute has postgraduate and doctoral studies.
The Literary Institute also has its own publishing department. The interaction of the educational process, creatively gifted youth, famous master writers, and the environment of a memorable place associated with the largest literary names turns our unique educational institution into the center of historical memory and lively, intense creative development.

Accommodation and Housing
The Maxim Gorky Literature Institute offers student accommodation. Each room in the dormitory is equipped with: a bed, bedding, desk and chair, and curtains. The bathroom is shared between double and triple roommates. Shared facilities (for all the international students): Refrigerator, microwave, kitchen range, toaster, TV, cooking utensils (pot, frying pan, knife, cutting board, etc.), laundry room. Free Wi-Fi is available.
