Tomsk State Pedagogical University

General Information

Tomsk State Pedagogical University is the oldest vocational pedagogical educational institution in Siberia. It is the successor of the Tomsk Teachers’ Institute, established on July 1, 1902, by the Highest Order of the Sovereign Emperor Nicholas II. The full name of the university is the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Tomsk State Pedagogical University” (TSPU). 

In its development, Tomsk State Pedagogical University has gone through a number of stages: from 1902 to 1920, there was the Tomsk Teachers’ Institute, which gave its graduates a secondary vocational and pedagogical education. In June 1917, by decision of the Provisional Government, the teacher‘s institute acquired the status of a higher education institution but was temporarily closed on November 1, 1920, by decision of the commission of the Tomsk provincial department of public education. In 1930, by the decision of the People’s Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic), a pedagogical faculty was established at Tomsk State University. On June 26, 1995, by order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation No. 352, the Tomsk State Pedagogical Institute was given the status of a university. On November 2-4 of the same year, a solemn presentation of the new university took place.

Accommodation and Housing 

Tomsk State Pedagogical University offers accommodation to its students. The dormitory has a perfect location: grocery stores, cafés, and restaurants with Russian and international cuisine are within walking distance. All city attractions, museums, theatres, and historic places are either within walking distance or easy transportation from the dormitory. The dormitory also is conveniently located in terms of going to and from the airport, either by taxi or via the metro. The dormitory is a corridor-type residential building with shared facilities. One room usually accommodates three or four roommates. Entrances to the building are equipped with video surveillance and security posts.
