About City

Ulyanovsk on the River Volga was previously known as Simbirsk. It was renamed in 1924 following the death of Vladimir Lenin. As the birthplace of Lenin, Ulyanovsk became a sort of mecca for communists and a giant historical museum was built over the house of Lenin’s birth. The museums still exist but are much less popular now, and today’s focus has shifted to the architectural and wider historical aspects rather than just about the leader of the world proletariat.

There are 525 modern libraries in the Ulyanovsk region, 46 of which are named after outstanding literary figures including I. Goncharov, A. Plastov, N. Blagov, S. Mikhalkov,  M. Lermontov, A. Pushkin, and D. Granin. In 2015, the Ulyanovsk region won the competition “The Literary Flagship of Russia” and received the status of “The Most Reading Region.”.

Ulyanovsk is the home of Russia’s largest printing plant  Dom Pechati (“The Press House”) which produces about 10% of all printed products issued in the country. By 2030, Ulyanovsk is committed to increasing the number of published books written by local authors and encouraging young creative entrepreneurs to engage in the book sector, as well as supporting reading and writing enjoyment by filling public spaces with innovative literary devices to enliven the curiosity of its citizens.

The city is one of the most popular study destinations among young and prominent students who want to boost their theoretical knowledge and take more from the informational resource centers of Ulyanovsk. Every student can study or work in every library in the city. The student also can visit numerous restaurants with Asian food, Rusian food, Turkish food, Indian food, and other national cuisines. In their free time, young people can spend time in art galleries, modern cafes, historical museums, and renovated cinemas.
