Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University is a state university in Russia in the city of Syktyvkar, the capital of the Komi Republic. With over 9,000 full-time local and international students and more than 600 qualified and educated faculty members, it is the largest institution of higher education in Russia, offering to study law at the Komi Republic. Syktyvkar State University was founded in 1972, making it the oldest and most developed university in the Komi Republic and Russia where students can study medicine.

The university includes 13 study institutes and 52 study departments and offers educational programs in technical science and study social science with Bachelor courses, Master courses, and Doctoral courses in Russia in the fields of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, Technology, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Economics, Management, Pedagogics, and Art. During the fall and winter of 2007-2008, Syktyvkar State University was selected to host the Associate Regional Office of Undergraduate Studies for Russia of the University of the Arctic. The university is associated with the Russian Mineralogical Society.

Syktyvkar is the capital city of the Komi Republic, Russia, as well as the largest city in all Republic. The modern city has major shipbuilding, ship repair, sawmilling, and paper-pulp industries as well as a teacher-training institute in Russia and a branch of the Academy of Sciences in Russia.
